We hope this letter finds you, your colleagues and family safe and well.

Although the pandemic is still an ongoing concern and causing large amounts of disruption, the Insurance M&A market activity remains strong.

M&A Services’ superior experience and sole dedication to the Insurance sector have allowed our team to continue providing our customary concierge-level services without interruptions, even during the highest restriction times. Our incredibly dedicated group continues to focus on providing sound advice, adapting quickly to new deal processes and resiliently assisting our clients in navigating their business development goals to success during these unprecedented times.

We have closed in excess of $1 Billion in transaction value during the last 24 months and these transactions can be found on our Closed Transactions Page. In 2021, M&A Services successfully advised First American Financial Corporation (NYSE:FAF) on an insurance book transfer agreement with SafeCo Insurance and Heritage Insurance Holdings. The COVID-19 pandemic and resulting economic fallout have done little to dampen insurance mergers & acquisition activity in 2020.  In 2019, M&A activity set a record for the total number of transactions in the industry. And while 2020 saw a brief slowdown in the spring because of the pandemic, the M&A market for insurance distribution firms came back to life in the second half of 2020. Now private equity backed and publicly traded market participants are participating in, and predicting, a robust 2021.

Program Insurance

While most maybe working from new home office venues, that has not stopped program opportunities in the market. We continue to see private equity at work in the marketplace. Whether it is the continued development of acquisitions on the distribution side or the development of program capacity through the creation of new carriers, private equity is hard at work. The creation of these carriers should theoretically add more capacity for both new programs or the movement of programs to a more ‘user friendly’ environment. Often these new carriers will combine both the new capacity and the ability to acquire the distribution as part of the process.

We are still in a time that has not allowed for face to face meeting at conferences or venues that help to promote transitioning business. While Zoom, Teams and other venues will certainly become valuable assets going forward, they cannot replace the complete picture face to face meetings present. We look forward to getting back to the good old handshake meetings and sitting across the table and discussing program opportunities.
