SCIPIE Indemnity announces sale of American Healthcare Specialty Company

New York, New York— February 5, 2010 – Merger & Acquisition Services Inc. (M&A), a leading insurance intermediary announced today that it successfully completed a sell side assignment for The Doctors Company, An Interinsurance Exchange. SCIPIE Indemnity Company, a subsidiary of The Doctors Company, sold American Healthcare Specialty Insurance Company to Kinsale Capital Group. “We were pleased to assist the Doctors Group on this divesture,” said Donald A. The Doctors Company Insurance Group ranks among the five largest writers of direct medical professional liability insurance in the United States and is the nation’s leading physician-owned medical professional liability insurance provider. They are the largest national insurer of physician and surgeon medical liability. The group writes business in nearly every jurisdiction, although California represents approximately 40 percent of its direct premium. Kinsale Insurance Company, part of the Kinsale Capital Group, is a specialty insurance operation based in Richmond, Virginia. The company will underwrite commercial property & casualty & professional liability lines within the excess and surplus lines segment starting in early 2010.
